In a strategic move to promote sustainability in aviation, Neste and World Fuel Services have formalized a five-year partnership to increase the availability of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across more than 100 airports in the United Kingdom and Europe. The agreement aims to strengthen the supply chain for SAF, enabling compliance with regional environmental mandates such as the ReFuelEU Aviation regulation and the UK SAF mandate. Central to this effort is Neste's Rotterdam refinery, which alone has the capacity to produce up to 500,000 tons of SAF annually.
The collaboration builds on a history of joint efforts, combining World Fuel Services' extensive distribution network within Europe with Neste's advanced SAF production capabilities. Duncan Storey, who serves as Senior Vice President of EMEA at World Fuel Services, stated that this partnership will help meet increasing regulatory and customer demands for renewable aviation fuels while ensuring a reliable supply. Meanwhile, Carl Nyberg, Neste’s Senior Vice President of Renewable Products, highlighted the significance of expanding their cooperative relationship to facilitate the scaling of SAF production from 1.5 million to 2.2 million tons annually by 2027, leveraging the extensive airport network of World Fuel.
This initiative underscores industry commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and supports global efforts to make aviation more sustainable. By scaling SAF supply and expanding access across Europe, both companies aim to play a pivotal role in industry decarbonization efforts and support the growth of renewable fuels in aviation markets.
