EVA Air, Taiwan’s leading carrier, has announced plans to expand its long-haul fleet with the delivery of four new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This strategic investment, approved by the airline's board, emphasizes its commitment to enhancing international flight services and maintaining Taipei Taoyuan International Airport’s role as a pivotal Asia-Pacific hub.
The total investment exceeds NT$65 billion, roughly US$1.94 billion, supporting the purchase of the aircraft and fleet upgrades. Alongside acquiring new Boeing 787-9s, EVA Air will also extend leases of its Boeing 777-300ER fleet and upgrade cabin features across multiple aircraft to ensure a consistent passenger experience across its expanding network.
Modernization and Future Outlook
These fleet enhancements aim to improve operational flexibility, optimize route capabilities, and provide increased comfort, particularly in premium cabins. The selected aircraft are noted for their efficiency and long-range capabilities, critical for long-haul flights connecting Taiwan with North America and Europe.
As the airline prepares for the arrival of Airbus A350-1000s from 2027, its approach remains focused on sustainable growth, fuel efficiency, and environmental responsibility. This integration of modern aircraft types and cabin upgrades reflects EVA Air’s long-term vision to strengthen Taiwan’s position as a global transit and tourism hub.
With a current fleet of 89 aircraft, EVA Air plans further acquisitions, including Boeing 787-10s and regional narrow-bodies, to support both international and regional routes. These investments are expected to boost tourism, facilitate long-term connectivity with the United States, and reinforce industrial ties between Taiwan and the US.
