Bolivia-based biochar producer Exomad Green has announced a new partnership with carbon credit procurement firm Senken, focused on providing CO2 removal solutions for the aviation industry. The deal entails the permanent removal of 105,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide between 2026 and 2028, utilizing biochar generated at Exomad’s facilities in Bolivia, including the new Guarayos site under construction. This initiative aligns with the industry’s transition towards adopting technologies capable of offering durable and verifiable emissions reductions.

Exomad’s biochar is produced from sustainably sourced forestry residues through advanced pyrolysis technology, resulting in a carbon-rich product capable of sequestering CO2 for centuries. The credits from Bolivia serve to support airlines’ net-zero strategies, highlighting a serious commitment within the sector to shift from reliance solely on nature-based offsets to permanent removal solutions.

Industry Confidence in Durable Carbon Removal

According to Exomad’s CEO Diego Justiniano, the aviation industry’s increasing investment in permanent carbon removal signifies a meaningful change in its approach to climate action. The partnership with Senken, which employs a rigorous vetting process via its proprietary Sustainability Integrity Index, consolidates nearly $30 million in contracted durable removal volumes, demonstrating substantial industry confidence.

"Aviation is one of the most demanding sectors when it comes to climate integrity. The fact that capital is now flowing into permanent carbon removal signals a structural shift in this industry,"

said Diego Justiniano.

The collaboration also emphasizes the growing importance of high-quality, audit-ready carbon credits, which are essential for credible corporate climate strategies. As the sector seeks to meet stringent regulatory and stakeholder expectations, the adoption of these permanent solutions is expected to accelerate.
