Fiji Airways has announced the appointment of Paul Scurrah as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 November 2025, following a global search to replace outgoing CEO Andre Viljoen. Scurrah brings extensive leadership experience from the aviation, transport, logistics, and tourism sectors, having previously served as CEO of Virgin Australia and Australia's largest private rail freight operator.
During his tenure, Viljoen oversaw significant transformation efforts that enhanced Fiji Airways’ operational scale, financial results, and pilot training capabilities. Notably, the airline’s fleet nearly doubled from 12 to 23 aircraft, including four Airbus A350s, with annual revenue rising from FJ$815.3 million in 2015 to FJ$1.9 billion in 2024.
Fleet and Revenue Growth
Under Viljoen’s leadership, Fiji Airways expanded its fleet and increased revenue, enabling the airline to strengthen its regional and international presence. The airline also launched the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy, with four full-flight simulators, which has become a regional hub supporting operators such as Air Tahiti, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, raising pilot training standards across the region.
"The creation of the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy marks a significant milestone in our commitment to developing local talent and maintaining operational excellence," said the airline. The training centre signifies the airline’s dedication to pilot development and regional industry support.
