Finnair has announced a significant fleet renewal initiative, including a firm order for Embraer E195-E2 aircraft to expand its regional fleet. Operated by its partner Norra, the airline plans to acquire up to 12 used Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft as a bridge solution while awaiting deliveries of new aircraft. The airline has ordered 18 E2 jets, with first deliveries scheduled for the third quarter of 2027, aiming to modernize its narrowbody fleet.
This strategic move comes amid delays in Airbus and Boeing delivery slots, prompting Finnair to seek used aircraft to meet its operational needs. The new Embraer E195-E2s will seat 134 passengers, equipped with modern amenities such as USB power and inflight connectivity, enabling the airline to strengthen its European and regional network, especially after the closure of Russian airspace.
"This is one of the largest investments in Finnair’s history," said CEO Turkka Kuusisto. "The E2 will help us enhance our regional connectivity and support growth targets. We are also actively sourcing additional used A320 and A321 aircraft to supplement the fleet."
Finnair's current fleet includes widebody aircraft such as 18 A350s, six A330s, and narrowbody models like 14 A321s, 10 A320s, and five A319s. The airline has scheduled deliveries through 2026 and aims to ensure its fleet remains modern and flexible for future expansion and network restructuring in response to regional operational challenges.
