Pem-Air, a Florida-based maintenance provider, has recently expanded its service portfolio to include support for CFM International Leap engines. Under a licensing agreement with CFM, the company will now offer maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the engine's 1A and 1B variants, which power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 Max aircraft. The scope of the certification also covers the 1C variants for the Chinese C919 aircraft, though Pem-Air's immediate focus remains on the 1A and 1B engines.
The company plans to initially perform lighter maintenance tasks such as hospital visits and field services, with a strategic plan to scale services according to customer demand. A Pem-Air spokesperson highlighted that, given the engines’ current operational age, heavy maintenance is not yet in high demand, and the company's growth will align with engine lifecycle and workload development.
All services will be performed at Pem-Air’s Brookville engine MRO facility near Tampa and at its component repair shop in Davie, near Miami. The addition of Leap engine capabilities further enhances Pem-Air's existing range, which includes engines like CF6, GE90, PW2000, PW4000, V2500, CF34, GP7200, RB211, Trent 800, JT3D, and JT9D.
The expansion signifies Pem-Air’s intent to strengthen its position in the regional MRO market and meet the increasing demand for LEAP engine support. This strategic move aligns with broader industry trends towards specialized engine repair services and reflects the company's ambition to serve a wider range of engine models in the future.
