Air Gekko, a regional carrier based in Faaite, French Polynesia, has received its air operator's certificate (AOC) from the French civil aviation authority, DGAC, enabling it to operate commercial flights within the region using a Citation Jet 2+. The certification, overseen by the local civil aviation authority SEACPF, addresses and resolves previous regulatory and legal hurdles that had hindered the airline’s operations. The airline's current aircraft, a 19.1-year-old Citation Jet 2+ registered as F-ONYY, will be deployed on charter, cargo, and medical services across the islands.
The airline's CEO, Eric Tortey, confirmed plans to expand its fleet, adding a Beechcraft B200 King Air in 2026, a model operated previously by Air Alizé, and a Citation Jet 4, which will enhance its range for longer missions. This development makes Air Gekko the seventh operator overseen by SEACPF, joining established regional carriers including Air Tahiti Nui, Air Tahiti, and Air Moana.
The certification process involved legal disputes over ownership structure and regulatory requirements. Ultimately, the court sided with the civil aviation authority, allowing Air Gekko to begin operations. The airline’s base at Nouméa Magenta positions it well to serve various destinations within French Polynesia, further integrating regional air connectivity.
With its fleet expansion plans underway, Air Gekko aims to enhance regional air services and provide versatile options for passengers and cargo, securing its role within the local aviation landscape.
