Garuda Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of India’s Garuda Aerospace Limited, has entered a partnership with Airbus Helicopters to incorporate its Flexrotor Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) into their leasing offerings. The agreement entails the delivery of up to 18 units, which will be utilized across a variety of civil and special missions such as infrastructure inspection, law enforcement, and wildfire monitoring.
The Flexrotor drone is designed for mission-critical operations, boasting an endurance of over 12 hours and the capacity to carry various sensor payloads. Its compact design allows deployment from confined land areas or maritime vessels without dedicated flight decks, with rapid launch capabilities within 30 minutes. Weighing only 25 kilograms, the drone supports autonomous launch and recovery from areas as small as 3.7 by 3.7 meters and is suitable for expeditionary operations both on land and sea.
Market Potential and Strategic Outlook
Olivier Michalon, Airbus Helicopters’ Executive Vice President, emphasized the drone’s balanced payload, endurance, and agility. Both companies anticipate increasing market interest for the Flexrotor in military and civil sectors, with steady growth projected through 2025. Garuda, already a major player in India’s drone market with over 5,000 units sold and a broad presence across sectors, aims to expand its international footprint, supported by this collaboration.
The partnership enhances Garuda’s portfolio, allowing it to deliver high-performance, long-endurance unmanned systems to customers worldwide, including in North America, supporting sectors like energy, defense, and public services. This initiative marks a significant step in Garuda’s strategic expansion and reinforces its role as a leading provider of advanced drone solutions.
