GE Aerospace has launched a comprehensive workforce development initiative aimed at strengthening the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) industry and manufacturing sectors across multiple regions. The program, called Lifting Futures, is a five-year, $30 million effort designed to train 10,000 new skilled workers by 2030 using partnerships and regional training investments.

The initiative focuses on five key metropolitan areas: Auburn, Alabama; Cincinnati-Dayton, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Wroclaw, Poland. In these locales, GE is investing at least $500,000 to support local educational and vocational training efforts, including partnerships with colleges and technical institutes. For example, in Dallas, GE collaborates with Tarrant County College to enhance their aviation maintenance technician programs, providing funding for equipment and virtual training platforms.

Addressing Industry Shortages

The program seeks to mitigate the industry’s shortage of approximately 5,000 certificated aviation maintenance technicians by expanding access to training and increasing local workforce capacity. GE has previously supported similar programs, such as the Heroes Make America initiative, which helps military personnel transition into civilian aerospace roles.

"The investments will help develop a skilled workforce that meets the future needs of the aerospace industry," said a GE spokesperson.

Overall, these efforts reflect GE’s ongoing commitment to workforce development, with plans to announce additional partner organizations and specific projects later this year. The company's broader talent strategies continue to focus on expanding its manufacturing and engineering capabilities to support growth in aerospace manufacturing and MRO services.
