German virtual airline startup Air Uniqon initiated operations on January 12, re-establishing direct flights between Friedrichshafen and Berlin Brandenburg Airport after a decade-long hiatus. The airline operates these routes using De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 turboprops managed by German regional carrier Avanti Air.

This development signifies a notable stride in the German regional aviation market, providing new point-to-point connectivity options for travelers between Lake Constance and the capital region. The partnership with Avanti Air allows Air Uniqon to focus on sales and marketing, without directly owning aircraft.

Market Context and Future Outlook

The relaunch of these flights aligns with a broader European trend of new regional aviation entrants seeking to capitalize on increasing demand for domestic routes. Industry analysts see this as a boost to regional mobility and competitive dynamics within Germany.

“The reactivation of these routes offers travelers greater convenience and stimulates local economies,” said a spokesperson for Air Uniqon.

As the airline begins its operations, future expansion plans are under consideration, potentially broadening its network depending on market conditions and regulatory support. The restart enhances regional accessibility and offers an alternative for domestic travelers in southern Germany.
