On Saturday, Bowman Field in Louisville hosted Girls in Aviation Day, a community event aimed at inspiring young girls to pursue careers in the aerospace industry. The event brought together female professionals from various aviation sectors who engaged with girls aged 8 to 18 through hands-on activities, including flying drones and operating flight simulators.
Organizer Crystal Korff emphasized the importance of the event in challenging misconceptions about gender roles in aviation. "They think, well, that’s something I can’t even do, like, that’s not even possible for me," she said. "So, we want this event to bring it to them and say, hey, you can do that. Like, you can do anything you want to do and the sky’s really the limit."
According to organizers, more than 250 girls were expected to participate in the day’s activities. The event aims to motivate more girls to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), particularly within the aviation sector, which remains predominantly male.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in aviation careers and to inspire the next generation of female aviation professionals.
