India’s GMR School of Aviation has announced a new partnership with RH Aero Systems, a US-based original equipment manufacturer, to establish a specialized tooling training program. This move is targeted at addressing the growing shortage of skilled labor within the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector of the Indian aerospace industry.
The collaboration will see GMR Aero Technic and RH Aero co-develop training modules that focus on the operation, repair, and maintenance of aviation tooling. These programs will be delivered at the GMR School of Aviation located in Hyderabad and will incorporate both classroom-based lessons and hands-on practical training using state-of-the-art simulators and tools. Employees of RH Aero will be among those undergoing these advanced training sessions, ensuring they stay current with industry standards and technological innovations.
The GMR School of Aviation, which opened in January 2024 through a partnership with Airbus, is evolving into a key hub for technical education in the region. Its curriculum has expanded to include programs in line maintenance, component repair, and aircraft interiors, reinforcing India’s growing role in aerospace skills development and MRO expertise.
According to Swaati Ketkar, an aviation journalist with expertise in the Indian aerospace sector, such collaborations are vital for creating a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting India’s expanding aviation infrastructure and maintaining its competitive edge in global aerospace markets.
