Hong Kong-based low-cost carrier Greater Bay Airlines has officially taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-9 aircraft, which has been deployed into commercial service connecting Hong Kong with Bangkok. The aircraft, initially expected in December, marks a significant expansion for the airline as it begins operating routes with its new narrowbody.
The airline initially planned to introduce the Boeing 737-9 in December for a route linking Hong Kong and Sapporo, Japan, starting December 17. The arrival of the aircraft signifies a key milestone in its fleet expansion efforts. The airline’s CEO highlighted plans to continue increasing capacity and serve new destinations.
Strategic Fleet Expansion
Chen Chuanren, the Southeast Asia and China Editor for the Aviation Week Network, provided an overview of the development, emphasizing the airline's strategic move to bolster its route network in the Asia-Pacific region. Greater Bay Airlines aims to strengthen its market presence against other carriers operating in the region.
The deployment of the Boeing 737-9 is part of the airline's broader plan to phase in additional aircraft and expand its route offerings. The move is expected to support the airline’s goal of providing affordable connectivity between Hong Kong and key Asian destinations, contributing to regional tourism and trade.
