Greater Bay Airlines has made a significant milestone by receiving Hong Kong’s first Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, marking its entrance into the modern fleet of the family. The aircraft, registered B-KWA, arrived at Hong Kong International Airport on 22 November after a flight from Boeing’s Renton facility in Seattle, with technical stops in Hawaii and Guam. This development aligns with the airline’s strategic expansion, including the introduction of a Premium Class cabin with eight seats designed to elevate passenger comfort.
The new aircraft features larger windows, mood lighting, and spacious overhead bins, providing a more pleasant onboard environment. The MAX 9 also emphasizes environmental responsibility, meeting strict standards by reducing emissions, noise, and fuel consumption. This aligns with Greater Bay Airlines’ goal of sustainability alongside growth.
Future Fleet and Route Plans
The airline’s order of 15 MAX 9 jets underscores its commitment to fleet modernization. Currently operating seven Boeing 737-800s, the addition of MAX 9s consolidates its fleet, with the next aircraft expected in early 2026. The airline's route network covers destinations across Asia and the Chinese Mainland, with plans to enhance passenger amenities and expand its reach.
Chairman Wong Cho Bau expressed optimism about the airline’s future, emphasizing the importance of Hong Kong's strategic position to foster growth. The arrival of the MAX 9, coupled with upgraded services like Premium Class, positions Greater Bay Airlines as a key player in regional aviation and supports Hong Kong’s role as an international hub.
