A Dash 8-100 aircraft operated by Perimeter Aviation was grounded at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport following a fire in its right wheel assembly during taxiing on Monday morning. The incident prompted an immediate evacuation of 35 individuals onboard, including 32 passengers and three crew members, all of whom exited the aircraft safely.
According to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, ground personnel and a flight attendant noticed the fire while the aircraft was still on the runway. Authorities responded promptly, and firefighting crews extinguished the fire, which was confined to the right wheel assembly. No injuries were reported, and the damage did not extend beyond the wheel area.
The flight was scheduled to operate from Winnipeg to Thompson, Manitoba, with stops at Manto Sipi Cree Nation (Gods River) and Shamattawa. Perimeter Aviation confirmed that all affected passengers were rebooked on subsequent flights after a delay of approximately four hours, and the incident remains under investigation as officials assess the cause.
