An airline in Guernsey has welcomed its first cohort of six cadets into its pilot training scheme, marking a significant step in local industry development. These aspiring pilots will undergo comprehensive training through a partnership with Leading Edge Aviation and Norse Atlantic, aimed at fast-tracking their readiness for commercial flying.
The cadets will initially gain experience on the Guernsey network as first officers before advancing to long-haul operations with Norse Atlantic. This innovative program is designed to give participants a three-year advantage over traditional training pathways to aircraft such as the Boeing 787, according to industry leaders.
Supporting Industry Growth and Local Development
"This scheme uniquely prepares pilots from ATR72-600 aircraft to the Boeing 787," explained a spokesperson for Aurigny. "It offers a clear pathway for aspiring pilots on the island, ensuring both industry sustainability and local employment opportunities."
"The opportunity to develop my skills as a pilot, flying in the challenging conditions in Guernsey, is perfect for me," was the remark from Kian Le Mottee, one of the new cadets.
Chief Operations Officer at Aurigny, Philip Smallwood, described the milestone as "fantastic" for the island's aviation future. He emphasized that such initiatives help secure long-term, high-quality flight crew and inspire the next generation of pilots in the region.
