The Haryana Civil Aviation Department has established a high-level technical committee to develop a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) aimed at strengthening aviation safety at state aerodromes. This initiative is in accordance with guidelines set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The committee, chaired by the department's Accountable Manager, comprises aviation and planning experts, and will evaluate the need for technical staffing to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
The decision was made during a virtual review attended by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, who emphasized that aerodrome maintenance is a continuous process involving regular inspection and improvement measures such as recarpeting runways. He stressed that the SOP will consolidate these measures to ensure safety norms are uniformly followed across Haryana's aerodromes.
Directions for Systematic Maintenance
The Chief Secretary directed the Public Works Department, Horticulture Branch, and Deputy Commissioners to coordinate and conduct the systematic, timely maintenance of aerodromes, including facilities at Bhiwani, Narnaul, Pinjore, and Karnal. The committee will set goals, timelines, and performance metrics to oversee compliance and maintenance quality.
This move aims to foster a standardized approach to maintenance planning and staffing, ensuring all obligations are met and flight operations are reliable. The SOP will facilitate interdepartmental coordination to address key aspects such as runway integrity and vegetation control, ultimately enhancing airport preparedness and safety adherence.
