Helicentre Aviation Academy, based in the UK, has announced that Jack Aldred is this year's recipient of its prestigious Commercial Pilot Licence Scholarship. The award fully covers post-PPL(H) training, including essential hour building, theoretical courses, and a comprehensive flying course on the Cabri G2.
Applicants underwent a rigorous process of interviews, presentations, and assessments, with Aldred emerging as the outstanding candidate due to his dedication and passion for aviation. He is set to continue his ground schooling and commence hour building, progressing toward his commercial helicopter license.
Statement from Helicentre
Chris Line, Head of Training at Helicentre, expressed optimism about the impact of the program: "Our Scholarship programme has proved immensely successful in developing talent and providing career pathways for students." He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in identifying high-caliber candidates and offering them opportunities with Helicentre and external contracts.
Aldred's journey to this achievement was marked by setbacks, including being medically unfit for military service. Undeterred, he pursued civilian helicopter training, starting his Private Pilot Licence in April 2024 and earning it in March 2025. Reflecting on his experience, he described his first solo navigation flight as "magical," emphasizing how the training has changed his life and fulfilled his ambitions.
He concluded with gratitude, stating, "Winning this scholarship is a surreal moment. It enables me to turn my lifelong dream into reality, and I am immensely thankful for this opportunity."
