Eighteen high-achieving teenagers recently visited Naples Airport as part of the Southwest Florida CEO program, which offers high school students opportunities to learn about general aviation. The program highlights career paths such as private and corporate aviation, along with various local agencies including the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, MedFlight, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Mosquito Control.
A student, Vibhav Nimmagadda, credited his pilot’s license acquisition to the James Ray Scholarship, illustrating the program’s success. Launched in 2024, the initiative is a partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University and local businesses, designed to foster key skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and professionalism among students.
Community and Educational Impact
Kelly Wilson, FGCU’s director of student success, expressed that the program aims to inspire students to value their community, pursue higher education, and return to Southwest Florida to contribute to its growth and development. The program’s emphasis on entrepreneurship and practical skills seeks to build a vibrant local ecosystem in the region.
The visit underscores the Airport’s role as a hub for diverse aviation opportunities, encouraging youth engagement and workforce development in the region.
