Hokkaido Air System, a regional carrier based in Hakodate, has announced that due to the prolonged grounding of its ATR42-600 aircraft, network disruptions are expected to persist until January 9, 2026. The aircraft, registered as JA14HC, was involved in an incident on December 11 and has been undergoing repairs since then, affecting the airline's flight operations.
The airline reported that from December 27 to January 9, it plans to cancel 80 flights and reschedule an additional 112 as part of its response to the fleet shortage. The grounding has particularly impacted flights originating from Hakodate, where the airline primarily operates.
Operational Challenges and Safety Priority
This situation highlights the critical importance of aircraft maintenance and safety in regional aviation. HAC has reassured passengers that safety remains its top priority and is working to restore full operation once repairs are completed.
"The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority," said HAC spokesperson. "We are working diligently to resume full operations and appreciate our customers' patience during this period."
Travelers affected by these disruptions are advised to stay informed through airline updates and to plan their trips accordingly. The airline has not yet specified compensation or alternative travel arrangements.
