China’s Shaphargroup has chosen Honeywell UOP’s Ecofining process technology for a new facility in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, aimed at producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This development reflects Rotterdam's growing status as a hub for alternative fuel production. The announcement follows the selection of Honeywell's technology by Shaphargroup, headquartered in Haikou, Hainan province, which plans to use the Ecofining process to produce SAF in the region. The project emphasizes international collaboration in advancing sustainable aviation fuel solutions, addressing the aviation industry's environmental goals.
The facility is part of ongoing efforts to develop low-carbon fuel alternatives to traditional jet fuel, supporting global climate commitments. Industry analysts see this move as a significant step toward scaling up SAF production, helping airlines meet future emissions targets and reducing the industry's carbon footprint.
