The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced its 2026 events schedule, designed to bring together industry leaders to address critical challenges facing aviation, including digitalization, safety, and sustainability. The calendar features a total of 18 global gatherings, with notable events such as the World Maintenance & Engineering Symposium in Madrid and Wings of Change Middle East & North Africa in Bahrain.
In 2025, IATA events attracted more than 11,000 delegates across 16 meetings worldwide, focusing on innovations in cargo operations, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and safety improvements. This upcoming schedule is especially significant as global air travel demand continues to increase, with data indicating a 10.4% growth in 2024 over the previous year, underscoring the sector's recovery and expansion.
Focus Areas and Industry Impact
Key topics include cargo safety, aviation data and cybersecurity, and efforts toward decarbonization. Frederic Leger, IATA's Senior Vice President, emphasized that these events are essential venues for industry stakeholders, including airlines and governments, to collaborate and accelerate the adoption of SAF and safety reforms.
With the airline industry forecasted to surpass $1 trillion in revenues in 2025, addressing sustainability and safety challenges remains crucial. IATA's conferences are expected to foster policy reforms, technological advancements, and safety protocols that will shape the future of air travel globally.
