IATA’s Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO) has partnered with two key industry registries to pilot a project aimed at ensuring the integrity of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) credits. The collaboration includes 123Carbon’s multimodal registry and 4AIR’s Assure SAF Registry. Running through the first half of 2026, this initiative seeks to minimize the risk of double-counting, a critical issue as the SAF market rapidly expands to meet industry decarbonization goals.

By establishing mechanisms for accurate tracking and verification of SAF claims, the project aims to facilitate responsible accounting and promote confidence among airlines, fuel producers, and regulators. Such efforts are vital to creating a trustworthy and standardized framework that supports industry growth and emissions reduction efforts.

Industry Impact

This pilot aligns with global initiatives to increase SAF adoption and demonstrates a proactive industry step toward sustainable practices. Ensuring transparency and preventing double-counting are necessary to attract investments and support policy development moving forward.

"Addressing double-counting concerns is essential for scaling the SAF market and achieving genuine emissions reductions," said an industry analyst.

The outcomes of this collaborative project could influence future industry standards and regulations, ultimately fostering a more robust and transparent SAF market that contributes meaningfully to aviation's sustainability goals.
