India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation has announced a new cooperation arrangement with the Federal Aviation Administration aimed at improving the certification and safety oversight of aircraft and engines. This initiative, part of an existing Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement, seeks to streamline approval procedures and enhance transparency, especially amid India's rapid aviation sector expansion.
Major aerospace manufacturers including Boeing, GE Aerospace, and Pratt & Whitney are involved in this structured collaboration, facilitating coordinated validation and approval processes for aircraft and engine types. The agreement aims to reduce administrative bottlenecks, support operational efficiency, and ease the continued growth of Indian airlines deploying U.S.-manufactured aircraft and engines.
Significance of the Cooperation
This partnership is particularly significant as Indian carriers have placed substantial orders for U.S. aircraft and propulsion systems, deepening the strategic aviation ties between the two nations. For Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) providers, such cooperation can expedite repairs, modifications, and service approvals, bolstering India’s MRO ecosystem. The DGCA believes that this measure will strengthen aviation safety and regulatory efficiency for the long term.
