Indian civil aviation authorities announced the completion of a crucial software update for Airbus A320 aircraft following a directive from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The mandate was issued after a software issue related to solar radiation affecting flight control data was identified, impacting 338 flights across the country.
Major carriers including IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express have completed the mandated updates on their fleets, ensuring compliance and safety. Indigo, with all 200 aircraft updated, confirmed that the system enhancements were achieved with minimal operational disruption. Similarly, Air India reported over 90% fleet completion, aiming to cover the entire fleet within the prescribed timeline.
Impact and Implementation
The directive required replacing or modifying affected Elevator Aileron Computers (ELAC) before the aircraft’s next flight. The updates were carefully coordinated to maintain network stability, with airlines emphasizing their efforts to avoid cancellations and service disruptions.
"We are pleased to affirm that all relevant aircraft have been upgraded and are now compliant," said representatives from the airlines. The process involved robust engineering and operational cooperation to ensure the safety of flights amid the technical rectifications.
The successful fleet-wide implementation reflects adherence to international safety standards and demonstrates the proactive approach of Indian carriers in addressing safety directives promptly.
