India has recently enforced stricter pilot fatigue management regulations, which have impacted airline operations across the country. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has mandated important safety measures, including increasing weekly pilot rest from 36 to 48 hours and limiting night landings to two per week instead of six. Additionally, pilots are now restricted to a maximum of 10 hours of flight time during night operations.

These measures, aimed at improving aviation safety standards, have led to operational challenges for airlines such as IndiGo. The airline has acknowledged that insufficient planning and roster adjustments before implementation contributed to service disruptions and flight delays.

While safety remains the primary concern, industry observers warn that abrupt regulatory changes without proper transition protocols may cause further short-term operational difficulties. Nonetheless, India’s move underscores its commitment to fostering safer air travel environments in the future.
