India's Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu has issued a firm warning to the airline IndiGo, stating he would 'definitely' dismiss its top executives, including the CEO and COO, should operational failures continue. The minister attributed the widespread flight cancellations and passenger disruptions to the airline's internal management issues, particularly mismanagement of crew scheduling, despite prior consultations and preparations for new pilot duty norms.
Naidu emphasized that these problems arose from internal operational lapses rather than the recent implementation of revised fatigue management regulations. He pointed out that aviation authorities had closely monitored flight operations over the past months, observing capacity and cancellations across multiple airlines, with IndiGo being singled out for its internal failures.
During a recent meeting on December 1, 2025, with IndiGo, the airline sought clarifications on new duty norms. However, despite these efforts, the airline continued to face flight cancellations, totaling over 400 across various airports nationwide. Major airports, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, reported significant disruptions, with dozens of flights canceled and passengers stranded.
Minister Naidu underscored that the airline’s management mistakes had led to the crisis and announced that penalties would be imposed accordingly. He assured the public that the ministry was exploring measures to support affected travelers and prevent future incidents, signaling a decisive governmental action against airline management failures amid ongoing industry disruptions.
