India's Andhra Pradesh marked a significant milestone in its aviation industry with the inauguration of its first Flight Training Organisation (FTO) at Kurnool Airport. The event was led by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who emphasized the importance of expanding pilot training facilities across the country to meet the growing demand for aircrews.
Naidu highlighted Kurnool's strategic location and favorable weather conditions as advantageous for flight training. He announced plans to develop night-landing capabilities at the airport and to establish a dedicated drone testing and certification facility, supporting the state's vision of becoming a regional aviation hub and a drone city.
The Orient Flights Aviation Academy, which currently operates with three aircraft, aims to expand its fleet to ten, training approximately 60 students annually. Officials see this project as a catalyst for employment in aircraft maintenance, ground operations, and airport management, contributing to the region's economic growth.
State ministers and officials emphasized the project's significance for youth employment and regional development. They expressed optimism that such initiatives would propel Andhra Pradesh into a comprehensive aviation ecosystem, aligned with national goals to increase the number of airports to over 350 by 2047.
