India's aviation industry has demonstrated robust growth in the first half of fiscal year 2026, reaching a record 202 million air travelers despite ongoing challenges with aircraft supply and fleet expansion. The sector reported a 2.6% increase over the previous year, driven by rising domestic and international travel demand.

Leading airlines such as IndiGo and Air India continue to shape this upward trajectory. IndiGo, which commands 64% of the domestic market, is expanding its network with an emphasis on international routes to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Meanwhile, Air India, now part of the Tata Group, is revitalizing its services with new international routes, upgraded amenities, and larger aircraft, aiming to increase its market share in global travel.

The growth in air travel has contributed to the expansion of the hospitality industry across popular destinations like Goa, Kerala, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, with hotels experiencing unprecedented bookings. The rise in international tourism is facilitated by new direct flight routes and better airline connectivity, further strengthening India’s position as a global tourism destination.

Travelers are encouraged to plan their trips well in advance, leverage regional airports, and stay updated on connectivity options. The addition of new aircraft and regional airports is expected to further boost capacity, reduce delays, and support sustainable growth in India’s aviation sector.
