India’s largest regional airline, Air India Express, has announced an ambitious target to reach a turnover of ₹1,100 crore by 2026. The airline's strategy involves extensive fleet expansion, aiming to add over 50 aircraft to support regional and underserved airports' growth. This initiative seeks to capitalize on India’s increasing demand for domestic air travel, particularly in smaller towns and tier-II and tier-III cities.
The airline’s growth is further driven by India’s government’s UDAN scheme, which subsidizes flights to remote regions, enhancing regional connectivity. This has resulted in a significant increase in routes connecting smaller airports to major metro areas, fostering tourism and employment opportunities in these regions.
As the airline scales up its fleet and route network, it expects to improve passenger services, including better airport facilities and in-flight experience, aiming to offer more affordable and convenient travel options. The projected revenue increase is envisaged to position Air India Express as a market leader in regional air transportation within India.
This move aligns with broader industry trends towards increased regional mobility, driven by government initiatives and rising passenger demand. The airline’s goal reflects a strategic push to strengthen India’s domestic aviation infrastructure and promote economic growth in less accessible areas.
