SkyHop Aviation of India has officially obtained its air operator's certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), allowing the start-up to commence commercial seaplane operations. The airline plans to initiate services in the Lakshadweep archipelago, connecting several islands and major cities with its planned fleet of de Havilland DHC-6-400 aircraft. The certification was announced through social media, confirming the company's readiness to launch flights.
According to reports, SkyHop will operate a 19-seat floats-equipped aircraft, previously operated by flybig, identified as VT-SHE. The airline completed initial water take-off and landing test flights at Rishikesh and Tehri Lake in Uttarakhand in early April 2026. Its focus will initially be on establishing routes within the Lakshadweep islands, supported by seaplane docks built on Agatti, Kiltan, and Kavaratti islands.
In addition to island services, SkyHop holds operational rights for routes to Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Shillong. The company leased a Twin Otter aircraft from AER Leasing and is enhancing connectivity options for regions with limited traditional airport infrastructure. Founder Avani Singh expressed confidence that the certification provides a solid foundation for expansion, emphasizing the airline's goal of offering safe and reliable transportation solutions in India's island territories and beyond.
