IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has reached a landmark milestone by employing over 1,000 women pilots, making it the first Indian airline to achieve this feat. Women now account for 17.5% of the airline’s pilot workforce—significantly higher than the global average—reflecting the company's commitment to diversity and inclusion within its operations.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, the Group Chief Human Resources Officer, stated that this milestone demonstrates the airline’s dedication to empowering women and fostering equal opportunities across all levels, from cockpit to leadership. The airline also supports women with initiatives like “Take-Off 2.0,” which aims to facilitate women’s reentry into the industry after career breaks, and the “6E Girl Power Community,” a platform for women to connect and share experiences.
Advancement across departments
Beyond pilots, women hold key roles in other segments of the airline, including more than 20% in finance, nearly 15% in digital roles, and over 30% in operations. These achievements showcase IndiGo’s broad commitment to promoting gender diversity and creating an inclusive workplace environment. The airline's focus on flexible policies, career development, and community engagement underscores its leadership in advocating for women’s empowerment in the aviation sector.
