India's largest airline, IndiGo, has successfully re-established over 95% of its network connectivity amid recent operational disruptions. The airline reported operating over 1500 flights today, connecting 135 out of 138 destinations it services, as part of its recovery efforts following a period of widespread cancellations and network issues.
Addressing the media, an IndiGo spokesperson indicated that the airline had canceled over 800 flights yesterday and that its primary goal is to rebuild customer trust while improving operational stability. The civil aviation authorities have mandated the airline to process refunds for affected passengers promptly, and ensure the safe and timely delivery of baggage that was temporarily separated due to the disruptions.
Operational Challenges and Regulatory Measures
The disruption significantly impacted the airline's on-time performance, with performance levels plunging from six metro airports. In response, regulatory agencies have provided relief measures, including relaxing certain flight duty time limitations for IndiGo pilots to mitigate crew shortages. However, airline pilot associations have expressed concerns over safety and regulatory compliance, emphasizing that such relaxations may compromise safety standards.
Despite these hurdles, IndiGo continues its efforts to restore full capacity, with management expressing commitment to transparency, safety, and customer service. The airline’s recovery efforts are seen as critical to stabilizing the domestic aviation sector during a period of significant operational stress.
