Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation is working closely with France’s Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) to improve civil aviation safety oversight through a strategic technical partnership. Since 2019, this cooperation has focused on inspector competency, standardization, and quality management. In 2026, the efforts have entered a new phase emphasizing sustainability and international standards.
On September 16, Jakarta hosted the 11th Steering Committee Meeting, attended by representatives from DGAC, Airbus, and technical experts. The partnership addresses approvals for low-visibility operations, safety management system assessments, risk management, personnel licensing, and refining Indonesia’s State Safety Programme. The goal is to share expertise, strengthen capacity, and ensure safety oversight becomes more competent, standardized, and risk-based.
Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, underscored the importance of ongoing knowledge exchange, particularly in preparation for the ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme scheduled for 2027. Thibaut Lallemand from DGAC praised the progress made thus far and emphasized embedding insights into institutional capacity. This collaboration aims to harmonize Indonesia’s safety standards with international best practices, fostering safer civil aviation operations in the region.
