Indonesia is on a trajectory to become the world's fourth-largest aviation market by the year 2030, driven by robust growth in air travel demand and supported by strategic government initiatives and international partnerships. According to Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, this projection is reinforced by forecasts from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and estimates from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). These agencies anticipate that Indonesia's domestic flights and passenger volumes will substantially increase, reaching approximately 7.4 million flights and nearly 690 million passengers by 2045.
At a recent signing ceremony in Jakarta, the government announced a joint declaration of intent with Airbus aimed at fostering cooperation in aerospace technology transfer, local industry development, and expanding Indonesia's role in the regional and global aerospace supply chain. The collaboration seeks not only to enhance aircraft manufacturing capabilities but also to improve the quality of human resources and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations in Indonesia.
The Indonesian authorities view air connectivity as vital for economic growth, development, and mobility across the archipelago. Minister Pambudy highlighted that advancing aircraft efficiency and technological innovation would be key to fulfilling these national objectives. The partnership with Airbus underlines Indonesia’s ambition to evolve into a regional aerospace hub, emphasizing domestic industrial capacity and human resource development as foundational pillars of its future growth strategy.
