A new aviation-themed event venue is being constructed at Caldwell Executive Airport in Idaho, offering a unique space that combines aircraft storage with public event hosting. Known as Vertical Venues, this 12,000-square-foot hangar is expected to open in early June and will serve as Idaho's only aviation-centered event location.
The facility, valued at $1.3 million, will initially accommodate 250 guests for corporate, wedding, and private events, with plans to expand the capacity as parking infrastructure improves. The design features a large hangar door that opens to provide views of aircraft taking off and landing, creating an indoor-outdoor ambiance. Additionally, the venue will offer aviation experiences, such as helicopter rides, skydiving, and group helicopter classes, to generate additional revenue.
According to project manager James Steele, a former Air Force helicopter pilot, the purpose of Vertical Venues is to promote community engagement and support the airport’s growth. The development involved collaboration with the FAA and local authorities, including securing a 20-year land lease and a special use permit. Airport director Scott Swanson emphasized that the building's primary purpose remains aeronautical, with flexible non-aeronautical uses permitted under FAA regulations.
The project aims to boost Caldwell’s economy by attracting visitors and events to the airport area, aligning with broader economic development goals. Steele expressed enthusiasm about offering a new venue for large gatherings and celebrations like quinceañeras, highlighting its size and uniqueness, and ultimately contributing to the community’s vibrancy.
