Aircraft manufacturers and technology companies are advancing in-flight entertainment (IFE) by leveraging cloud-based solutions. Axinom, a digital platform provider, has partnered with Rosen Aviation to develop a Connected Seatback Platform that operates without extensive onboard infrastructure, relying instead on cloud and wireless technology.
The innovative system, powered by Axinom's On-Board Cloud software, centralizes content management and enables personalized passenger experiences that are directly streamed via inflight internet connections. This approach eliminates the need for heavier, traditional embedded systems and supports quicker content updates fleet-wide, offering a new level of operational flexibility.
Enhanced Cabin Displays and Flexibility
Rosen Aviation brings its expertise in lightweight cabin displays ranging from 11 to 97 inches, including options for cabin partitions and digital windows. These displays communicate wirelessly with onboard access points, reducing cabling and aircraft weight, thus lowering overall costs. The modular nature of these displays and their potential for digital signage signal a shift in in-flight cabin design.
"Move the brain to the cloud and everything changes. The screen stops being an entertainment terminal and becomes a device the airline can build on," said Ralph Wagner, CEO of Axinom.
This partnership aims to challenge the dominance of the established IFE vendors and introduce a scalable, flexible platform aligned with modern airline operations. Industry analysts view this as a significant step toward transforming passenger engagement while optimizing the logistical aspects of in-flight entertainment systems.
