The German air accident investigation bureau (BFU) has concluded its investigation into an incident involving a Boeing 757 freighter where the main cargo door opened unexpectedly during flight. The aircraft, which had undergone retrofitting, experienced significant airflow disruption as a result of the event, raising safety concerns about cargo door modifications.

According to the final report, the cargo door's design has been identified as a potential area for improvement. The incident underscores the importance of rigorous testing and validation of retrofit modifications to ensure structural integrity and safety in flight. It has prompted manufacturers and operators to revisit the safety standards governing cargo door systems, especially on older aircraft converted for freight operations.

Air safety expert Thierry Dubois said, "This event highlights the critical importance of structural and design reliability in aircraft modifications. It could lead to stricter regulations and further redesigns to prevent similar incidents in the future."
