Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry has announced that an investigation into the emergency landing of a Flydubai flight revealed that the pilot was assaulted by his co-pilot, resulting in injuries to both crew members. The incident transpired during a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, which was diverted to Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Tabuk after the altercation.
According to official reports, the aircraft, identified as flight FZ1073, safely landed with 174 passengers and eight crew onboard. The injured pilots received medical treatment in Saudi Arabia; the captain, Smit Machchhar, an Indian national, was seriously injured but later transferred to Abu Dhabi for further care.
The UAE’s chief prosecutor stated that an investigation had been launched to assess whether the incident involved terrorism or premeditation, with Emirati security teams participating alongside Saudi authorities. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Captain Machchhar for his courageous actions, emphasizing that his efforts helped prevent a potential disaster.
