The United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran on February 28, involving extensive air, land, and sea strikes aimed at disrupting Iran’s military infrastructure. Approximately 200 Israeli fighters, including F-35s and F-15s, participated in the operation, supported by U.S. aircraft such as F-22s, B-2 bombers, and naval strike groups. This event marks the largest regional concentration of U.S. military firepower in decades, reflecting growing tensions in the Middle East.

The operation, called 'Operation Epic Fury' by the U.S. and 'Roaring Lion' by Israel, targeted key Iranian military sites, including missile and drone launchers and command centers. Initial reports indicate that the strikes caused limited damage and no casualties, but Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on regional targets including Bahrain, Iraq, and others. Several countries in the Middle East closed their airspace, leading to the suspension of numerous commercial flights, thereby highlighting the increasing instability in the region.

Strategic Objectives and Regional Impact

U.S. officials emphasized that the operation aimed to diminish Iran's missile capabilities and naval assets, especially targeting long-range missile threats. Support forces and equipment, such as tanker aircraft and support ships, were positioned to sustain ongoing operations. Following these strikes, Iran’s military conducted retaliatory missile and drone attacks, further escalating regional tensions.

"This is the most significant use of American military power in the region in a generation," said a U.S. defense official.

The recent strikes follow months of increasing hostilities, including previous operations against Iran's nuclear infrastructure, and signal a potentially wider conflict. The international community remains attentive to the evolving situation, with regional countries and allies preparing for possible further escalation.
