iGA Istanbul Airport has expanded its international network by establishing a Sister Airport partnership with Sydney Airport in Australia. The agreement aims to enhance global connectivity, increase passenger and cargo traffic, and promote joint marketing initiatives between the two major aviation hubs.
Through regular management meetings, workshops, and data exchange, both airports plan to collaborate on route development and operational best practices. This partnership also seeks to foster new air services between Türkiye and Australia and highlight the cultural and tourism offerings of both cities.
Global Leadership and Growth
According to ACI EUROPE’s 2025 Airport Industry Connectivity Report, Istanbul Airport has become Europe’s most connected airport, surpassing Frankfurt for the second consecutive year. It serves over 110 airlines and more than 330 destinations, ranking among the top three worldwide in terms of airline capacity.
This recent Sister Airport agreement with Sydney follows a similar partnership with Chicago O’Hare International Airport and is the tenth such collaboration in iGA’s growing international network, which includes airports in South Korea, China, Denmark, Thailand, and Vietnam.
iGA officials have emphasized that this agreement is a significant step towards sustainable growth and improving passenger experiences, demonstrating a shared commitment to strengthening global air transport links and fostering cultural exchange.
