Jordan’s Amman Civil Airport to Resume Operations, Enhancing Regional Connectivity

The Amman Civil Airport, situated in Marka, Jordan, is preparing to reopen after a significant period of closure. The reopening aims to bolster the country's aviation infrastructure and tourism industry. Ahmad Azzam, the Director General of the Jordan Airports Company, reported that the airport is close to receiving final regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC), anticipated by late November 2025. Once operational, the airport will function as a secondary hub alongside Queen Alia International Airport, alleviating congestion and providing more affordable travel options for passengers.

With a capacity to manage up to one million passengers annually, the airport will accommodate flights from Middle Eastern and European destinations. Discussions with low-cost airlines such as Wizz Air, Ryanair, Flynas, and Air Cairo are underway, with operations expected to commence in early 2026. The development is projected to foster competition, reduce ticket prices, and enhance connectivity throughout the region.

Economic and Tourism Impact

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan highlighted the strategic importance of this reopening for Jordan’s economic recovery and tourism sector. The airport’s strategic location and cost-effective fares are expected to attract international visitors to explore Jordan’s key attractions, including Petra, the Dead Sea, and Wadi Rum. The facility will feature modern amenities, secure infrastructure, and improved transportation links, ensuring a seamless experience for travelers. This development signifies a new era for Jordan’s aviation sector, strengthening regional connectivity and contributing to economic growth.

Overall, the reopening of Amman Civil Airport is poised to increase flight frequency, promote tourism, and support the country’s broader economic objectives, marking a pivotal step forward for Jordan’s regional transportation network.
