Kazakhstan is actively pursuing sustainable development initiatives within its aviation industry. Recent discussions between Deputy Minister of Energy Kairkhan Tutkyshbayev and Nicolas Rallo of the ICAO highlighted plans to establish sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in the country as part of its broader green transformation.
According to official sources, the Ministry of Energy aims to collaborate with international partners, including the U.S.-based company LanzaJet, to develop SAF projects that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from aviation. Domestic oil refineries are prepared to start producing Jet A-1 jet fuel in the near future, supporting these efforts.
Large-scale initiatives are also in progress to expand refining capacity, with a target of reaching 1.7 million tons of aviation fuel annually by 2026 to 2032. Kazakhstan is forecasted to achieve energy surplus before 2029, further underscoring its commitment to energy sustainability and environmental goals.
