Kenya Airways has established an interline partnership with South African regional airline CemAir, aiming to improve air travel linkages across Africa. The agreement allows passengers from both airlines to access each other's networks via Johannesburg, connecting to various destinations within South Africa and beyond.
This collaboration offers Kenya Airways passengers access to CemAir’s domestic and regional routes, including destinations like Bloemfontein, Hoedspruit, and Kimberley, as well as regional sites such as Maun, Victoria Falls, and Harare. Conversely, CemAir travelers can connect to Kenya Airways' extensive network covering key African cities, including Dar es Salaam and Addis Ababa. The system enables single-ticket booking and seamless transfers, simplifying regional travel.
Kenya Airways’ CEO George Kamal emphasized that the partnership aligns with the airline's long-term strategy to connect Africa's diverse markets and foster regional growth. CemAir’s CEO Miles van der Molen highlighted that the partnership paves the way for future expansion across the continent, combining the strengths of both carriers.
The airline operates numerous flights between Nairobi, Johannesburg, and Cape Town, with a fleet that includes Boeing 787-8s for long-haul routes and regional aircraft such as 737-800s and Embraer E190s. CemAir, based in Johannesburg since 2005, has become South Africa's third-largest airline, operating over 30 aircraft, including CRJs, Dash 8 turboprops, and Beechcraft 1900Ds. Earlier this year, CemAir announced a codeshare deal with South African Airways to promote domestic connectivity.
This strategic alliance enhances regional air mobility, supporting economic development and tourism across Africa.
