Kenya Airways is progressing with plans to expand its freight services by adding Boeing 767 freighters to its fleet. The airline anticipates receiving its first Boeing 767F by the end of the first quarter of 2026, with a second aircraft expected to join shortly thereafter. This move aims to bolster Kenya Airways' cargo capacity amid increasing regional and global demand.
Ella Nethersole, Deputy Editor of Aviation Week Network's Arabian Aerospace and African Aerospace, reports that this expansion aligns with the airline's broader strategy to develop secondary hubs within Africa. The airline’s cargo growth is also supported by industry projections that global air freight demand will increase by 2.6% in 2026, according to IATA.
Strategic Growth in African Air Cargo
Kenya Airways' investment in freighter aircraft signifies its focus on strengthening airfreight services on the continent. The airline is also monitoring the wider air cargo market to meet regional trade needs and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
"The introduction of Boeing 767F freighters will significantly enhance our cargo capabilities," said a Kenya Airways spokesperson. "This expansion is key to supporting our growth ambitions within Africa and beyond."
As part of its ongoing development, Kenya Airways remains committed to expanding its operational network and improving logistical solutions for regional and international trade partners.
