KLM Cityhopper is actively evaluating options to renew its fleet, with a focus on acquiring additional Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The current fleet includes 17 E175-E1s, 17 E190-E1s, and 25 E195-E2s, but the airline is considering consolidating to a uniform fleet of E195-E2s to enhance operational efficiency.
Maarten Koopmans, the managing director, indicated that a decision on the 25 E2 aircraft options might be made by the end of this year. The airline aims to gradually phase out leased aircraft from German Airways and HOP! to streamline operations and reduce complexity.
Operational Benefits of Fleet Standardization
Switching to an all E195-E2 fleet would simplify pilot and technician training, reduce spare parts inventory, and improve operational and ground handling efficiency. Although other aircraft types are under consideration, Koopmans emphasized the importance of operational simplicity.
This strategic move aligns with KLM Cityhopper’s broader goal of enhancing efficiency and flexibility as it plans future fleet expansion and modernization.
