Korean Air is set to develop a new aircraft maintenance hangar within Incheon International Airport’s High Tech Aviation Complex, backed by a joint investment of KRW 176 billion with Incheon International Airport Corporation. The state-of-the-art facility will enable advanced airframe inspections, component work, and heavy maintenance, supporting Korean Air’s ambitions to expand its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities and establish a competitive global hub. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027, with operational readiness by late 2029. The hangar will accommodate three aircraft simultaneously, including two widebody and one narrowbody.
During the signing ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Incheon, Vice Chairman Keehong Woo highlighted the project’s safety importance. “A maintenance hangar is not merely a building; it is a cradle of safety and a vital foundation for upholding Korean Air’s top priority of absolute safety,” he stated. The facility will serve as a major center for aircraft repairs and modifications, strengthening Korea’s position in the global aviation maintenance sector.
This effort is part of a broader infrastructure expansion that includes a large engine maintenance facility on Yeongjong Island and a Future Urban Air Mobility (UAM) & Aviation Safety R&D Center in Bucheon. The airline aims to advance sustainability initiatives, including the rollout of plant-based, eco-friendly in-flight meal containers that could reduce related carbon emissions by around 60 percent. These developments support Korean Air’s vision of safety, innovation, and environmental responsibility as they prepare for future growth in the aeronautics industry.
