In a move to enhance passenger connectivity, Korean Air has announced it will begin offering complimentary high-speed internet powered by SpaceX’s Starlink satellite network. This initiative makes Korean Air the first full-service airline in East Asia to implement such technology on its aircraft.
Starting next week, four of the airline’s aircraft, including three Airbus A350-900s and one Boeing 777-300ER, will be equipped with Starlink stations. The airline plans to extend this service across most of its fleet by the end of 2027, gradually replacing its existing Wi-Fi system.
Improving Passenger Experience
The upgraded connectivity aims to provide speeds comparable to ground-based internet, allowing passengers to stream videos, browse, and use cloud-based applications comfortably. However, voice and video calls, along with social media live streaming, will be restricted to ensure security and passenger comfort.
"This development is part of our strategy to offer the best onboard experience," said an airline spokesperson. "We are committed to continuous innovation and improving our services."
This rollout coincides with Korean Air’s ongoing integration with Asiana Airlines, which is scheduled for December. The airline’s move reflects a broader trend toward enhancing in-flight digital services in the aviation industry.
