Kuehne+Nagel, a leading logistics provider, and Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) have entered into a long-term partnership focused on sustainable aviation. This collaboration emphasizes the use and development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), produced by Swiss tech company Synhelion, which utilizes concentrated sunlight to convert biogenic and recycled carbon into renewable fuels. The agreement aims to support decarbonizing air transport through innovative technologies.

A key aspect of the partnership is a SAF off-take arrangement, where from 2027, Kuehne+Nagel will purchase SAF from SWISS, under a five-year deal, for use on cargo flights operated by Swiss WorldCargo. This commitment provides Synhelion with planned production security, enabling capacity expansion and further technological advancements. Such commitments are expected to encourage broader SAF adoption within the aviation industry.

Significance of the Partnership

SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger highlighted the importance of SAF as a sustainable solution in aviation, noting that the scarcity and cost of such fuels require strong industry partnerships. The initiative reflects a collective effort to reduce the carbon footprint of air logistics and promote sustainable practices across the sector.

Overall, the alliance between Kuehne+Nagel and SWISS exemplifies how airlines and logistics companies can cooperate to foster technological innovation and accelerate the shift toward environmentally friendly aviation fuel sources.
