Schindellegi, Switzerland, 16 December 2025 — Kuehne+Nagel, a leading global logistics provider, and Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) are strengthening their strategic partnership to promote sustainable aviation fuels. Through a memorandum of understanding, the companies will collaborate on projects aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of aviation operations.
The core of this partnership is a commitment to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced by Synhelion, a Swiss cleantech entity. Synhelion's process converts sunlight into renewable synthetic fuels, including solar jet fuel, which can significantly reduce carbon emissions. To support the technology's expansion, Kuehne+Nagel and SWISS have agreed to a long-term SAF offtake starting in 2027, wherein Kuehne+Nagel will purchase fuel from SWISS for its cargo transport.
Driving Decarbonization in Aviation Logistics
This agreement not only offers Synhelion planning security but also aligns with broader efforts to decarbonize logistics and air travel. Kuehne+Nagel plans to leverage this innovative fuel to help clients lower their carbon footprint, aligning with global climate targets. SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger underscored the critical role of such partnerships in making sustainable fuels more accessible and affordable.
"Sustainable aviation fuels are essential for making air travel more sustainable. Our collaboration with SWISS and Synhelion demonstrates our commitment to accelerating this transition," said Yngve Ruud, Member of the Management Board responsible for Air Logistics at Kuehne+Nagel.
The partnership exemplifies how industry leaders are taking proactive steps to promote technological innovation and environmental responsibility, paving the way for cleaner skies in the future.
